The National Agency for Agricultural Research (NAAR) supported a scientific research project entitled “Potential for the Development of Small Water Bodies in the Landscape as Adaptation Measures to Eliminate Hydrometeorological Extremes”. The principal investigator is the Brno University of Technology, the co-principal investigators are Palacký University in Olomouc, the Research Institute of Melioration and Soil Protection and the companies ASITIS and Atregia.

The main objective of the research is to evaluate the potential of developing small water bodies (SWB) in the landscape as adaptation measures. The project focuses on the issue of increasing the retention of watersheds – increasing the ability of the landscape to retain water based on the design and implementation of adaptation measures in the form of small water areas as part of a comprehensive system of nature-based measures. Water management of the landscape is always designed in relation to other functional systems – important in this context are Territorial Ecological Stability Systems (TES), whose context will also be the subject of research. The project uses the integration of new sources of information (eco-information) by applying remote sensing (RS) technologies – based on the evaluation of multispectral and radar satellite data – to identify suitable sites and areas for the implementation of MVP.

Work on the project started in January 2021 and the final results will be available this year.
