Jan combines extensive experience in climate protection and space technology. His professional background includes coordinating the Climate Protection Program at a non-profit organization, increasing municipal and corporate involvement in climate campaigns, and working internationally on climate change. As co-founder of the successful companies ASITIS and World from Space, Jan contributes to the development of technology solutions using satellite data and AI to support activities in the areas of sustainability and development cooperation.

Professional Information:

Jan’s professional career combines business and non-profit experience in the environmental sector. As Climate Protection Program Coordinator at CSOP Veronica, he has been involved in education, advocacy and consulting activities in climate change. He has secured a five-fold increase in the number of municipalities and companies participating in WWF’s Earth Hour climate campaign, including connecting the capital city of Prague and UNESCO sites. As a board member of the Climate Coalition, he secured greater collaboration from the NGO sector on climate change. Jan has long been involved in non-formal education, whether as head of the Lipnice Holiday School, senior lecturer and evaluator of Erasmus+ projects, or as head of corporate education projects and CSR programmes at Česká cesta.

As co-founder and director of World from Space, he built a successful space technology company. Its agricultural product DynaCrop is used in more than 20 countries and the company is involved in development cooperation with the World Bank, the preparation of the Czech national satellite AMBIC the mission mapping the surface of the Moon LUGO. He has also gained experience working as a technical and business development consultant for the European Global Navigation Satellite System Agency and the European Union Space Programme Agency or as a consultant for the Copernicus Emergency Management Support Service (CEMS).

At ASITIS, he is a co-owner and senior consultant, focusing primarily on international cooperation. He has established relationships with major European actors in the field of climate change adaptation, which led to the preparation and implementation of the successful Horizon VALORADA project. In partnership with the European Space Agency, he then developed the UpGreen project demonstrating the use of AI in monitoring and planning urban green spaces in Copenhagen and Lisbon.

Education:

  • Graduated in Media and Communication Studies, Political Science and Environmental Humanities with emphasis on environmental politics and climate policies of European cities
  • One year internship at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Human Ecology University of Defence (2009 – 2014).
